Anyone know if I install this bayonet lug on a Remington 870 and I snap in my M9 or M7 bayonet, if the muzzel ring on it will correctly marry up to a +2 magazine tube extension? I mean the muzzel ring will actually correctly fit over the extension tube (as well as it does a M-16/AR-15 barrel)? I'm thinking it will but it's free to ask. Anyone for instance seen one mounted in the military or perhaps a picture on the internet? I've seen bayonets on winchesters and mossbergs but I can't call up an experience with one on a Remington. If I actually have any sort of use for it I'll address later. Though I just keep thinking you see someone with a shotgun it say "business" whereas a shotgun with a bayonet say "HOMOCIDAL MANIAC"

I have never seen an 870 being used by the Army. We always had Winchesters and Mossbergs and I have seen pictures of Ithica? Model 37s trench-gunned out (heatshields, long magazines and bayonets. It lookes like you just neet to check the guard/muzzle ring to see if it will fit over the end of the magazine tube. If it will you just slide the Clamp/Bayonet Lug to where the guard/muzzle ring is on the end of the tube and tighten the clamp. Personally I recommend the older M7 Bayonets, they are lighter, sharper and the joke is it weighs so much less, that you can carry the bayonet and a purpose built wire cutter and be carrying less weight and have better tools.

Answer to Remington 870 lug questions

You can say that again about the M7 vs the M9! Once upon a deployment I carried a Mossberg (no lug) and we had the Winchesters with the lugs in the armsroom (Model 1897). I think they left them in there under the perception that they were old or dated. I didn't see much of any difference in reliability, magazine capacity or function plus anything that gets the soldiers seal of approval from WWI for trench warfare can't be too bad. Call it CQC or whatever but me trying to kill you point blank does not change alot over the years.

You have me wondering about Remington 870s in the army now... I did a little research and apparently the mag extender from them was designed to accept a bayonet ring in there military project. So it is doable/done. Just be sure you have the right one. Also apparently the military back in the day did not think Remington's lug was strong enough so devloped it own (pictured and I read occasionally found on auction sites).

On our last deployment, we showed up at the Mob station toting some of the old Winchesters 1200s, needless to say, we left with Mossberg 500s (6 round magazines, no bayonet lugs), The Army doesn't like you to show up with weapons they have declared obselete. My state was too cheap to buy replacements and waited for the federal government to replace them.

Why not consider a Mossberg 590 and be done with? :twoguns:

I've got a Wingmaster in the safe here at work (Air National Guard). No bayonet and it is used for wildlife control and bird scare ammo.

For my last 2 deployments the army un-obsoleted the M-14 in the units I was in.

Mossberg I have respect for but it doesn't feel right for me. Perhaps it was just a beat up army one. What I am looking at is getting the Remington MCS system (or equivalent) so that I can mount it under my M4 and have the other barrels for versatility.
