This was in 1979, before the improved extractor springs, mag followers, or pig tail gas tubes were available, and he used Ball powder reloads, and cheapo Hornady 55 gr Softpoints for about half of the firing. The rest was the same powder charge, and "seconds" (ie, not very good) 55 gr ball bullets that he'd reloaded. So, anybody claiming EITHER CAR-15 not being reliable, or ALL ball powder's gumming up the AR too much, OR wd-40's not being a lubricant, is simply fos.
