Feeling spunky and in the mood to learn from you fine folks so I say lets play a game of scenarios so that we can evaluate each other with CONSTRUCTIVE critisism and maybe refine each other a little.
I will start with the scenario and we can build from there or start from new scenarios as each one of us gets ideas.

First scenario:
Its post SHTF and you have decided to go it alone against all better judgment. You find yourself alone, its pitch black at night with no moon to illuminate the area as you walk through the thick treelines and underbrush. You are wandering along in unfamiliar territory when all of a sudden you feel a small amount of resistance on your upper torso and WOOOOoooooooshhh,..oh yeah, you just hit a trip line...,its that sound of an illumination flare going off climbing high above your head telling the whole area that someone or something just sent it skywards and your presence is now known...seconds later the night sky is now glowing bright as well as everything around you, shadows are on the move from the flares slow decent making everything appear to be moving all around you.

So what do you do?

Deer and other animals set off flares too. Hopefully it will be dismissed as an animal, at least until morning.
Good call GBULLET
Deer would most likely be the only animal besides a man that would have set this flare off as in the scenario the trip line was upper torso.Keeping "some"of your retreats/camps perimeter alarms/devices at higher levels keeps the small critters from setting them off.

Damn tough one

IMHO
I would have to say my mind would be going like Half elf described as I would try to talk to them real quick and let them know Im not alone all the while reaching for my radio(that is carried with me on patrols) with one hand, the other ready to fire my MBR and scanning left and right for quick cover.
Rika, you are viscious with this game,..LOL...I like it.

Good point on sling

Rika,..slings are for transporting a weapon IMO for a non hostile enviroment, other than that the weapon should be held and accessable at a split moment.
Good scenario,made me think!

Whos next?
