in 12 ga sometime, open choke and short barrel. :) You will get PAINFUL impacts on your shins, from the MANY pellets that BOUNCE OFF. So much for small birdshot for home defense. you can't trust it to pierce heavy winter clothing and his sternum, man, beyond a VERY few feet from the muzzle. At such ranges, a pistol is QUITE A BIT faster to get the hit with, and a lot less likely for him to grap the gun and wrassle with you over possesion of it, espcially as you try to use a light, phone, etc.

remember, 90% of the time, the guy wont MAKE you hit him with ANY bullet, IF you get the gun 'on" him in time for him to NOTICE it, and stop his attack. So the power of the load, or even HITTING him with it, OFTEN takes a back seat to having it POINTED at him, FAST enough, while staying OUT of his reach. ou can EASILY be "jumped" by somebody you didn't see (like his buddy) especially at night.

That's a load of crap.

I've been in a truck where we've come upon a cross street and there's Haji with his AK and he's staring down the barrels of 3-6 automatic weapons, some of them belt fed, and the little moron still decides that he's going to try to bring his gun to bear. Bad choice Haji.

Just because your personal preference is to surrender when confronted by authorties that doesn't mean that 90% of the people in the world are that way.

Try a more impressive test. Take 3/4 inch plywood and shoot it at 15 feet with high brass No.6's. Now tell me it wouldn't be effective even if your wearing your schoolyard overcoat.

The next time a big, wooden post chases me, I'll follow your advice.

If he's in my home he's already "made" me hit him. Most states have domain laws which say if an intruder is in your home with criminal intent, whether armed or unarmed, lethal force may be used. The nice thing is most states have riders also which makes it illegal for you to be sued civilly in justifiable cases.
