bad as do "peened on' front sights. The dovetailed type is the only way to go. Solder requires "white metal", ie no bluing or solder slag, degreasing, and a close fit between the parts, or the front sight will fly over your shoulder one day. The heat needed to solder the sight can cause warpage, enough that the bushing wont fit in the slide, without some Dremel work. The heat also ruins your finish, and it will of course ruin a luminous Tritium insert, too.All in all, soldering on front sights sucks. So does paying $25 for each front sight to Novak, of course, and so does cutting a proper dovetail in the slide. No good answer, really, it's all a big PITA.

Silver hard soldered sights are extremely durable. Do you know how to silver solder properly andy?

Odd, the only blue Iv'e ever scuffed for solder was rust blue. Slag?, isn't that what comes to the surface as the solder cools? Warpage?, never had a barrel warp after soldering on band type sling studs or banded front sights.
Dovetails worthless?, use a dovetail mill and the propper dovetail file and they are verrrry easy.
