While I always had materials for making snares I recently had the chance to buy some ready made ones from another member of our Militia.

I bought 6 and they are all approx. 5ft of braided steel cabel about 0.065 thick. With loops on either end. He had some heavier ones but they seemed over kill for anything in this area except bear or deer maybe.

Snares are an invaluable tool for survival. Sometimes the snare wire can get twisted up but the lock and swivel and the rest is reusable. The twisted wire is cheap; that along with the parts and a good pair of pliers will make new snares. In fact you can make a lock out of a penny. I personally have a couple of deer sized snares in my kit 'just in case'.

Todd, I would get at least a couple. $4.00 is cheap compared to peace of mind. At the least, you can have the lock so you can duplicate it at home and make more from your other materials.

This place is great. I've done business with them; they deliver quickly and are honest with good prices.

It pays to keep a couple of rolls of snare wire in your buttpack on your webbing, you never know when it could come in handy.
