so what? so ball ammo is a poor stopper, so what? It's a poor stopper in 308, too. That's why it's illegal for use in hunting deer.

It would be a courtmartial offense for soldiers in the field to try to "smith" their weapons in the field.

Ball ammunition in .223, particularly the 55 grain bullet load, is the most effective ammunition available provided it is fired from a 16 inch or longer barrel. .308 FMJ bullets fired from .30-06 or .308 caliber rifles is highly effective against human targets. People who have been in combat know these things. Apparently you do not/

and within it's frag velocity range.
