I buy new Glock knives, root saw, plain back, olive, black, and tan...I use to send them over to the guys in Iraq but I heard they're getting what they need now...so I guess I'll start collecting them as they're not too expensive and they're neat.
OK, so I came across something...it's old, well worn and weird.
If you're familiar with the Glock knives, this is just like the smooth backed one, but there are some differences.
Knife:
1. The butt of the knife instead of having a rounded plastic end piece has a metal concave surface.
2. The grip appears identical, except there is a dimple and a cut out on the top of the grip and through the guard.
3. The guard is similar, even including the bottle cap opener, but the finger portion of the guard is turned down rather than up.
4. The blade is identical to a Glocks.
Scabbard:
1. The scabbard doesn't open like a Glock one and has a hole near the top running across perhaps for a wire type suspender like on bayonets.
2. There is "Solingen W. Germany" in white at the bottom portion of the 'loop'. It's got their company style lettering.
3. The loop goes through a slot and is secured by a rivet the round top of the rivet provides a securing stud for the knife, in the aforementioned dimple.
4. There is no front clip to secure the blade.
5. There is no 'legging' loop on the back side of the blade.
6. The seam runs on the sides, not front an back like on a Glock knife.
What I'm wondering is who made the knife, Solingen or Glock. Who came up with the design as it's obvious one inspired the other, greatly. Are there old Glock knives out there that are variations as I've only seen the same types, different colors.
Thanks if you know for sure...
