I tried out a mag cinch with two thirty rounders in my CAR. Not good results. The cinch worked fine, but it threw the balance of the carbine completely out - made it big-time heavy on the left side. Am having much better luck with the back-up mag on the stock.

You know,I've wondered how many of those assesories for the AR pattern rifles actually detract from the rifles function,Rather than enhance it.
Have you tried the balance w/20 rounders yet?It can only help, yes?

No sir, I haven't tried it with the 20s, but I don't think it'd make much difference, especially as compared to storage on the buttstock. As for accessories, I agree! Simple is better to me. My CAR is simple - just a stock flat-top upper with nothing else but a dot optic and a flip-up rear sight.

Are these mag cinches used by the military? If so, what do they use? Seems like they would know what works best.

We used to tape our twenty rounders end to end; a dumb idea, when you went prone, you mashed the magazine feed lips in the dirt. It looked cool, but we soon gave it up. I've yet to hear of a military issued magazine cinch. How much faster is it than from your pouch?

Considering the stress that it may put on the mag catch itself and the fact that you may jam the lower mag feed opening into the dirt in prone position, it seems that the pouch is the better option for combat in the field. Urban combat may yield different results.

IIRC, I think they used a few different types in the Isreali military.

Though I don't know how common they were. For both the UZi and M-16.

R - I dunno what the military uses. Hard Rock could probably tell you.

Here is a photo of the mag cinch I referred to:

... and 'nother:

Here's the buttstock unit I was referring to:

These images are from US Tactical Supply's website, and they're due a plug. I've bought from them several times and have found them to be top-drawer product quality, price, customer service, follow-up, the works. Great folks to deal with, and I'm just a plain ol' non-operator, retail customer.

I bought a mag cinch about 4 years ago, horrible results. Now I'm using the Mansen AR-15 mag holder ($6.50/ #560-141-500) from Brownells <www.brownells.com>. I love them for competition use. With them I also use "Magpuls". The only better mag holder is the Israeli one, but you can't use a magpul with them. Once the holders are set up, which takes a couple of minutes, I apply some olive drab duct tape to hold the mags on place so they can't shift. This is with 30 rd mags only, 20's don't double efficiently or function reliably.

I have 4 doubles set up and carry 2 of them in a Claymoremine pouch, great piece of kit for that purpose. I have a Blackhawk mag pouch on the buttstock of my AR-15A2(LE) that holds a 20 rd mag fitted with a magpull.

they've got 40-45 rd mags,for u guys

who figure on MISSING a lot. :) If stick to thick cover or darkness, as you SHOULD, there will be about zero need of firing 10 rds in any one encounter. You can just drop prone and crawl away under such conditions. The only hitting you are likely to do is in the first 2 seconds of any engagement. You aint likely to get more than 4-5 hits in that time. After that, they are moving, taking cover, firing back, etc, and all you are doing is wasting ammo, and exposing yourself for no good reason.

So whats gonna happen gunkid, when the police come and take your wife's guns away? Or what happens if she decides to kick your welfare butt out the front door? You don't get to take her guns! You won't have any guns to practice with!

If the quality of your fakeID, is equivelent to your ability to stay out of jail, your in deep doo doo! But then I can go out and buy 5, 10, 15, 100 guns legally if I so desire.

When the cops have the goods on you they will come in groups of 10 or more. Yes, somebody DIES, but it will be stupekid. Feds don't like ex-cons with guns and with CRIMESTRIKE they have promissed to lock ex-cons up for as long as they can.

Notice stupekid got busted before and gave up even though he KNEW he was going back to prision. If a con rolls once, that shows he has no guts and he will roll again.
