auto, using ball ammo. 4 MOA. That does NOT include being shot at, not having ear protection, in bad light, smoke, dust, on movers, etc. Nor is it allowing for wind or mirage or exhaustion or depression or dysentery in the shooter. 12" groups can easily be COMPLETELY OFF OF 10" circles at 300 yds. A head on prone man is a 10 " circle as a target, and 300 yds is a LONG ways from being outside of the reach of a scoped CAR-15, even with "just" an 11" barrel, even if you ARE a head on prone target. So why bother to lug around a noisy, 10 lb (loaded, ) 308, when you can have a 9 lb, scoped, loaded, suppressed shorty 223, .22 unit versatility, etc? Makes no sense at all. Hell, a 24" AR, with 1" of flashhider, is no longer than 22" barreled M1A and 3" of flashhider, and a 24" AR, with 90 gr vld's, .560 BC rating, is a VERY capable sniper rifle, to 600 yds, if the man behind it is as capable. TWICE as far as a FAN of the .308 rifle considers to be effective range of the typical GOOD rifleman, with such a 308. :)

sure, it happens. so does hitting birds in flight with a .22 rifle.SOMETIMES, with careful choosing of the shots, etc. When you NEED tofire, tho, it's RARE to have any picking of the shots, or careful prep, etc. It's "go with what ya brung", and do so ASAP.
