OK, a possible civil war/breaking up of the US in a major SHTF situation has come up several times. It is quite possible that if such happened again, witht he divisions in the country, it might be a real possibility of the US breaking into several, smaller, nations. What do you all think of this breakup pattern, likely or not?

Northeastern states. From New England, west to probably Michigan, south to basically the mason-dixon line.

Southeastern states. Basically Ol' Dixie.

Pacific states, Washington, Oregon, California.

Midwest states, Idaho, Montana, the Dakotas, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah. Maybe Arizona and New Mexico

Texas might become its own republic again, or form the nucleaus of the southcentral states, to include Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and possibly Arizona and New Mexico.

regardless of the lines drawn, the US NEEDS to break up into 6-10 smaller countries, each with a dozen backpack nukes, and NOTHING else in the way of nukes. The rest of the nukes to be destroyed. The surface navy to be mothballed, the carries and battleships to be cut up and melted down. All foreign US bases to be shut down, all foreign based troops to be brought home. No more screwing around with other countries' biz. If a few hunter killer teams can't deal with a "problem" country, send a backpack nuke or 2. End of problem.

I cannot begin to imagine what it would be like if th U.S. broke up.For example,Western Mi is very strongly conservative,has quite a few people,& the population is largely rural yet-spread out.Eastern Mi is where the scummy liberals live.A lot of people crammed into just a few counties.They control the vote here(GM,FORD,Detroit,& etc.).Mi would split right down the middle.But say the country I wanted to live in,that best reflected my ideals,was where present day Oklahoma is.Then what,I'd have to pass through Chicago(a known stronghold for freedoms :crap: ) just to try & get where I want to live.
Yikes.It would be generations before the borders were finally settled on.In the meantime a lot of the US would slip to 3rd world status,We'd be looted & over run by the Chinese.
I know.I know.I choose to live where I do.Fine.I don't think that moving to the moon would do more than prolong the inevitable though.

The US probably won't break up, though Mexico does want to carve off the Southwest after we were industrious enough to develop it in a way they never could. The USA and Mexico have not fought their last war.

Some pieces may attempt to break away, but any breakaway will only be temporary. After any civil war, the reigning central government of the effected nation usually goes on a campaign of reconquest of any breakaway pieces of territory, especially true with larger countries, like Russia for instance.

If anyone wants to see what a ethnic civil war looks like in a modern, developed country, I HIGHLY recommend reading a non-fiction book called "My War Gone By, I Miss It So" by Anthony Loyd. It is probably one of the very best books on the horrors of modern ethnic conflict and civil war written to date.

The author was a former British Army officer from Gulf War 1, who became a combat photographer and solo freelance journalist on the ground for much of the wars in Bosnia and Chechnya: rape, torture, multilations, and massacres amongst former neighbors and co-workers, over sized claymores made out of TV's, coke can grenades, sniping (sometimes with .50 cals, including Barretts), hunger, brutality, etc, with regular people trying to carry on with life right in the middle of it all.
