are deflected by impacting small limbs, even 12 ga slugs. If the bullet is centered on the twig, it is deflected less than if it impacts on the "edge" of the branch. If the twig is close to the target, the bullet may still do its job. The closer to the gun the brush impact is, the less stable the bullet is, and the further off target the bullet will be deflected. No less of a big bore fan than Ross Siefiied says EXACTLY what I've posted above.

This is posted as if anyone disagrees with the premise. Brush does deflect bullets.

Deflecting and stopping are too different things, as I beleive this is an attempt to minimize the better penetration of the .308 vs the .223

Both rounds are deflected by brush.

Not all cover and not all concealment are brush.

Both rounds are good rounds, used within their respective envelopes.

Name dropping aside, so what?

5.56 SP will shatter into little fragments when it hits any kind of limb. Even 5.56 miliary, which is ment to fragment but is stronger, will do this somewhat. The problem with the 11" POSCAR is that the velocity is so low regular 5.56 FMJ will not fragment and thus a poor stopper. But if you use gunkids suggestion and use SP ammo then it is useless in 'THICK' cover. The same cover gunkid's SHTF dreams are based on.

And that's a fact.

50 BMG is pretty good at brush bucking

25mm AP from the M242 Cannon is really good at brush busting

30MM firing M789, M799, or even M788 from the M230 Automatic cannon is damn good at brush busting

The M829 series of 120mm, APFSDS-T bucks brush like there's no tomorrow.

Tell us another fairy tale about how there"ARE NO "brush bucking" rds."

Even the 12 guage slug, something gunkid considers a toy, bucks brush much better than a 11" POSCAR.

In thick brush it is very unlikely that you will see a target at long range anyway. By the time you see said target, Buckshot coming from a tight choked weapon might be a better solution. Just move quietly to get the drop on him. Oh and slugs arent toys; they'll go through a few trees before they stop.

maybe, and maybe they will be deflected. They are nearly as penetrative in wood as guys THINK that they are. They don't come anywhere close to penetrating what steel cored AR rds do, for instance.

No more buckshot or slugs or birdshot. than it's feasible to carry, nobody's going to bother with shotguns very long. Buckshot is VERY short ranged on deer, for instance. It takes a REALLY good choke to make the crap worth a damn on deer at 30 lousy meters. Slugs are pretty worthless on small game, small birdshot's pretty worthless against men or deer. Best forget the small birdshot and buckshot, in favor of just carrying #2 birdshot, and a few slugs, if the shotgun is all you have. ASAP, best use it to get a .22 rifle and a fighting rifle, or you wont be around long. The .22 might even be a priority over the fighting rifle, so you can forage more quietly, use the rd that's more commonplace than ALL other types of ammo combined (including shotshells) and carry enough of it to be worth having. 75 rds of birdshot, buck, and slugs is 6-7 lbs. 7 lbs of .22lr's is 1000 rds.

Truely gunkid is FOS. What point is having an 11" POSCAR if it isn't worth a shit in thick cover. Thick cover like swamps, new woods, etc.. are THICK. I don't care how many rounds you can hump with a POSCAR, if it isn't going to do the job, it ain't worth shit.

20 rounds of 12 guage slugs and buckshot is worth 100 rounds of 5.56 SP from a POSCAR in thick cover. Every shot from that little 5.56 is going to expose you and let the enemy know where you are, especially at night. One blast from a 12 guage will do far more dammage, shoot through far more cover than that 11" POSCAR.

Yes gunkid is FOS, hands down.
