your spare mag, more than 2nd rifle. It makes for a GREAT way to enjoy shooting, even indoors, with wax ammo, and if you aint fast enough, all the power and accuracy in the world are useless. A timer is a HUGE help for seeing what's helpful as to speed, and what's slowing you down. Many times, a move will "feel" fast, but the timer will show you that it was not That's because you had "wasted motion" in the move. You can at olympic speed around the block, I can JOG across the block and still beat you to the far side.

u need to know what speed the top men

turn in, for various exercises, so that timing yourself is meaningful. 6 minute miles SEEM pretty fast, until you run such against a REAL milier and he LAPS you. You can THINK that a 1.6 second, reaction, ccw belt draw and it of chest at 10 ft is "ok", until you see a real hand hit THREE chests that fast, 5 ft apart, edge to edge. :) Then you realize that you are nothing much.

Remember, the attacker gets to CHOOSE time, place, victim, wear armor, have gun in hand, bring friends. He doesn't NEED speed,or real accuracy, or power. ANY shot he fires, from his .22, is likely to maim or kill you or yours. So you have to make a CCW draw, and a chest hit, maybe SEVERAL chest hits, or a brain hit, before he can get off any shots at all. That's a TALL order. Not impossible, tho, if you surprise him and are REALLY good, especially if you wear armor.

ignoramuses"think" that because no timer

is present, during attacks, that the defender gets to move as slowly as he "has to"(to get the hits) that's OBVIOUSLY bs. If you have even 3 seconds, you can charge the guy and twist his head around, so obviously the pistol is really only of value if it's faster than that. since most attacks start at 5 yds or less, and a man can charge from 5 yds in 1.5 seconds, if you can't react, ccw draw and hit chest in 1.5 seconds, at 5 yds, there' sreally not much point in carrying a gun. IN order to do that, you have to be able to react, ccw draw, and hit at arm's length in 1.1 seconds or less. It's not really feasible to do the latter much faster, if any, than .70 second, and .80second is REALLY moving, for such a reaction and ccw draw. Yet, a man can dive-tackle you from 6-7 feet away, in .5 second, and MANY an attacker gets closer than that before the defender is aware that the guy is NOT just "passing by", NOT just another beggar, etc. That's why I say that if you ccw, you SHOULD wear armor. A man should ALSO be a top fighter with his hands and feet, and he should have his hand ON a pocket gun, any time he either smells a rat,or enters any place genercially known to be dangerous, like alleyways or public restrooms, or parking lots, at night.

IPSC is NOT reality!! So where does a timer fit in tactical training?? Tactical movement in a hostile area has little to do with speed. It is very difficult to scan areas of concealment and cover for a hostile before you enter a potential ambush site, while running like a freaken jack rabbit.
