easily torn, WORTHLESS when wet,expensive sleeping bags, but it ain't like I didn't try to tell you. Ditto the silly assed tents, bivvy sacks, etc. If I am going to lug it around, it's going to be MULTIPLE use, and not nearly so easily-ruined. Most of the time, u'd BETTER find something in nature that functions fairly well as shelter-sleeping gear, to camoflage you as you sleep, and help retain your body heat, keep you dry, etc. Lugging around lots of bulky, heavy, GLARINGLY man-made gear is pretty stupid.

Most modern bags will keep you warm even if wet (which is actually hard to get them to stay wet in the first place.)

I bet my merlin is lighter than your mylar crap and will keep me comfortable to much lower temps.

This is another one of those topics you should stay away from, as you don't know very much about it.

While my 5 piece Arctic sleeping bag and bivy sack are not the lightest on the market, it is one of the most durable. And I have used it to a -70F windchill. I have spent over 3 months in one at a time with no problems. When the Canadian Government designed an arctic bag for their soldiers they didn't scrimp. I bought mine in a surplus store for $275.00 before I retired as they wouldn't let me keep my issue one.

I've used mylar in the field and as the sole source of warmth (in winter), it is cr^p. Wanna talke about 'easily torn'? No wind protection. It has it's uses, but as a supplement to other things.

Even if you have to skimp on other gear, two things you don't jury rig, your boots and your sleeping bag.
