That increased powder capacity, and the extra 1.0-1.5 grains of powder capacity, achieved by cutting a huge hollowbase cavity in the bullet, are what make such speeds possible. 20 odd years ago, THV Arcane offered a 45 gr, hollowbased 9x19 at 2400 fps, in a 5" barrel. The 356 case makes it feasible to have a 600 ft lb load, that's fully controlable in a very lw, very compact pocket pistol.
