I must have really pissed him off. He is in denial (and not the one in Egypt.) He knows the CAR is a pos and I proved it. All he can do is demand WE pay money to chrono loads and cut down barrels to somehow prove his point. What a crock.

To put it in persepective, the CAR's 16" barrel is only 20% shorter than the full-size AR15/M16; worth keeping in mind, but not a horrendous loss. Conversely, the CAR's barrel is as much as 60% LONGER (10" vs. 16") than the Commando. That IS a horrendous loss, imo, when you consider the "normal" barrel is 20"; 100% longer than the 10" Commando.
In a caliber that depends largely on velocity for effectiveness (which the 5.56 admittedly does), that extra 60% of barrel length makes a substantial difference in performance, not to mention legality in most cases.
Another example, with the same ratios, would be a 24" barreled .308 rifle. A "CAR" version would be 19.2", a loss, but not a terrible loss. The "Commando" version would be about 12". And just as a 19.2" .308 would be a very different weapon than a 12" .308; the 16" CAR is a very different weapon than the 10" Commando.
Some here call any sub-20-inch AR a "CAR-15". They're mis-speaking.

Myself, since you went on ice, I graduated from high school, I've been on several continents, learned to yammer in a couple of languages, gotten a couple of degrees in college, been in and then out of the military (honorable), backpacked, hiked, swam, shot all sorts of hardware, been shot at (not fun), sailed the ocean, climbed mountains, did field research, climbed ancient ruins, been crippled up and then recovered, did hundreds of scuba dives - a great many at night, started businesses, etc, etc, etc.
Others here have similar stories. Everyone has done their own thing. Most of the people here have had rather interesting lives.
I'm not bragging, and seldom does any of the regulars here. Just stating the facts.
The point is this: a LOT can happen in 20 years.
We've been doing it, not staring at four concrete walls thinking about it while slowly going insane in solitary confinement. There is a difference. For most of us, Papillon was a movie, not a flashback.
I know that you find it intolerable that you feel that you are behind the curve, out of date, got left behind, etc. What's done is done. Maybe you should quiet down a tad every so often and listen to what someone else has to say. It's only too late when they start shoveling dirt on your corpse.
