u should be able to get by for MONTHS on small game, dogs, cats, birds, fish, plants, so there is only a NEED to take ONE cow, or elk, moose, or bear a year, and maybe half a dozen deer. So much for the "need" of more than 223 for big game taking.:) 223 sp's take deer just FINE to 150m, even from short barrels. They also brain big critters just FINE, to 100m. If you can't get within 100m of ONE big animal a year, you are nothing but a LAME. ditto if you cant get within 50m of 5-6 deer a year, and that is range to brain deer with a subsonic .22lr.

In some places big animals are easier and faster to come by, far more food vs effort and ammo.

BTW, unless you're Euell Gibbons and living that lifestyle on a regular basis AHEAD OF TIME, suddenly switching to a regular diet heavy in wild, edible plants is a serious shock to the system and will kick your ass, provided that you are skilled enough to actually identify them safely in the first place AND there are enough plants in the area.

you‘re stupid to need to take a large animal, yet in this very thread you say you need to take a cow, elk, or moose. You contradict yourself a lot.

you are handicapping yourself with your shorty.

I doubt you have the stalking skills, plus if there is any hunting pressure at all , you will find it a lot harder to get close to game.

he has zero experience, so he doesn't understand the reality of the situation.

the problem with this post, is the complete lack of critical thinking. One big animal a year is probably doable, even for you - if you're healthy. However, if you're already well into the year and in a bad way, then it is not very likely you'll be able to do so.

You're also hung up on the idea of "braining" them, highlighting your inexperience as a hunter. If you are the skilled shot you claim, then the heart shot would be a far better choice - simply for the times something doesn't go exactly as you plan it to go.

Also, once there is any hunting pressure at all - remember you keep telling everyone game will be completely gone in a year, then you are not going to get very close to anything.

You seem to contradict your central themes all the time, especially when you think it makes you look better (?) than you really are. Sadly, it just highlights that you aren't

He doesn't even have 1/100th of the skills it'd take to either stalk or shoot even half the game he's talking about. And I'm not talking marksmanship either.
Maybe a 15yo half blind&deaf pekingese with one foot in the grave but that's about it.
