to a scope, "folding' sights, be my guest.I want a PROTECTED set of luminous iron sights, and a QD,return to zero scope base. You can HAVE your battery dependent, fragile electronic sights and scopes for shtf. A scope, as an auxiliary, specialized sighting system, ok, but as the MAIN sight, never. A fragile, exposed iron rear sight, on a flip up mechanism, not me, thanks just the same. For a specific "mission", TODAY, sure, maybe the electronic sight would get the nod, as long as the removable carrying handle, and its sight, are ALONG as back up. I aint bothering with such for shtf, tho.

I've blown out several tritiums, including 3 sets of 'protected' tritiums just on an HK91. They are a tad more fragile than people think.

My experience is that that a compact, 1x combat optic is more rugged than tritiums. They are also useful in the day, unlike tritiums. Tritiums can also illuminate you in an opponent's starlight scope.

The ARMS flip up iron sight is pretty tough. You break one of those and you've accomplished something. You've probably also broken something else major on the weapon. The DPMS rear sight is simply the stock A2 sight, rail mountable, without the carry handle.

A combat optic is seriously faster than irons and the batteries last a long time. In a crisis, the edge they give you is probably more than any other add on gadget you can fancy up your primary weapon with.

Do I have a set of tritiums for the AR? Yes I do, I have a set of Trijicon's. They are in the buttstock with the other spare parts.
Years ago, I had a pistol with tritium sights. Whenever I CCW'd it at night, those sights would glow right through my shirt.

Here's fun experiment:

Take an unloaded, tritium sighted pistol into a room with a mirror, but no windows. Turn out the lights and let your eyes adjust to the darkness. Point the pistol at the mirror and notice how it lights you up.

It gives you that, "Hey, shoot me first!" glow.

How dumb. He has no idea what a Trijicon is. I bet he sticks a Tritium plug in hs de-barked Chihuahuia's butt to he can follow him home in the dark, no? :p

Geez after 7 years as an infanteer, without luminous sights, I must have been horribly ineffective!!!! Funny, my personal evaluation reports don't reflect that fact.
Gunkid is going to be like one of those fireflys you see at night. Everytime he turns he 'winks' off and on. Only any NVD will spot him hundreds of yards away, and anyone with a simple scope or binoculars will spot him easy in the sticks.

I thought Melvin said he couldn't hit anything at 100+ yards without his scope.

I kind of like not being lit up by my own sights. But then again, I've actually been shot at and lived through it.

I absolutely want to be without luminous sights on my fighting guns. They are a nice beacon for NVDs, they provide an excellent aiming solution in the dark at the idiot using them.

his lack of any actual experience shines through very brightly....pun intended
For low light I use a white stripe XS front post. No tritium sights on my rifles.
