I've blown out several tritiums, including 3 sets of 'protected' tritiums just on an HK91. They are a tad more fragile than people think.
My experience is that that a compact, 1x combat optic is more rugged than tritiums. They are also useful in the day, unlike tritiums. Tritiums can also illuminate you in an opponent's starlight scope.
The ARMS flip up iron sight is pretty tough. You break one of those and you've accomplished something. You've probably also broken something else major on the weapon. The DPMS rear sight is simply the stock A2 sight, rail mountable, without the carry handle.
A combat optic is seriously faster than irons and the batteries last a long time. In a crisis, the edge they give you is probably more than any other add on gadget you can fancy up your primary weapon with.
Do I have a set of tritiums for the AR? Yes I do, I have a set of Trijicon's. They are in the buttstock with the other spare parts.
