However, at the typical 20 ft and less ranges of civilian self defense (95+% occur at such yardage) the pattern is only 1-2" wide, so it might as well be a rifle, no more help than it is at hitting anything. So why give up the penetration, range, concealment, one hand use, .22 unit, suppressor, flashhider, 30 rd mag of the AR, for the silly bs of a shotgun, hmm?
Time and money spent on the shotgun, can't be spent on the more-useful fighting-foraging rifle, much less on the 10x as likely to BE there handgun, or the 20x as likely to be appropriate and fast enough hand to hand training.
