Just because YOU can't figure out how to get 62 grs to 2900 fps in a 14" barrel doesn't mean it can't be done,by BETTER MEN. :)

Well, I guess that excludes present company :)

I don't need to worry about it, since I prefer a 16" barrel. Tell it to the Army. They are the ones funding all of the R&D trying to squeeze performance out of their M4's.

The Israelis had a better solution. They use a 14.5" lightweight, 'A1' profile barrel. They just issue the tried and proven M193 with a 55gr cannelured bullet.

Somewhat true. The max pressure is being kept to levels that will be safe in any temperature that soldiers may be required to operate. Simultaneously, the selected load has to be accurate, etc. in the Arctic or Iraq.

Bull Squeeze! Prove it, as in post a link to a reliable source.

The only special 5.56 ammo I have verifiable evidence of being used are 77gr BTHP Match bullets.

What I take JMD to mean is that the military has special hot loaded ammo that is only used in war time. Takes special thinking to come up with stuff like this. :uhh:

Gunkid, you have a 11 inch barrel, not a 16. Even if you overload your rifle, you won't be dragging handloading equipment with you. You will shoot what you find, be it military 5.56, wal-mart winchester, S&B SP, or Wolf 5.56. All you will do with handloads is have a weapon sighted in for some specialy ballistics and not standard ammo. The CAR is for losers, face it.

Now if you can just make 2780 with 62gr ball from a 14.5 inch barrel, we all know you will be LUCKY to make 2500 fps from a 11 inch barrel (at least 75 fps loss per inch and there is 3.5 inches to lose.) 62 gr soft points will go even less! If you look at the Hornady manuel for the 60 grain spire points as a reference, when you start out at 2500 fps you find your already down to 2150 at 100 yards! And at 200 yards you are down to 1870 fps. That's ok for a XP100 pistol, but for your main rifle it's pitiful.

The CAR is for losers.
