Something where you came out the clear winner, whether it was up front, or just the way things turned out later on.

One that comes to mind for me was back when I was looking around for a S&W Sigma in .357 Sig. I knew that S&W made the darn thing, but after going to dozens of gun shows, I NEVER saw one for sale. I don't believe I saw one on the net anywhere as well, but that might have been a bit before I spent a lot of time looking there for things of interest.

Anyway, I finally called the local rip-off gun shop and asked if they could possibly order one for me. Well, you could have knocked me off my chair with a feather when the guy I talked to said they had one right in the display case there. They just didn't normally carry things like that! I just told him to hold it and I would be right up to take a look at it. Grabbed the wife and off we went.

Well, sure enough, they had one. It didn't have a price tag on it, so I just knew I was in for a real reaming. This place always overprices things, and this guy already had me by the noogies since he knew I really wanted it. So with much trepidation, I asked him how much he wanted for it. He said $289. How I kept a straight face, I'll never understand, because I just KNEW he had screwed up. My problem was to get the gun paid for and paperwork filled out and OUT the door before someone else figured this out. But that's what happened. When we got outside, my wife told me she knew something was wrong but she kept a straight face as well. That was about half of what I was expecting to pay for it.

Come to find out that S&W only made 500 of that model, so it is certainly a collectible. And to this day I have never seen another one for sale and any gun shows I have been too since. Just so happens I just checked and there is one on GunsAmerica for $800.

Heck this is bringing back memories....

I was in a gun shop out in the boonies where I normally bought my reloading components real cheap and happened to hear some of the good old boys laughing about some "space gun" in the display case. I wandered over and took a look and saw something I had never seen before. A H&K P9S in .45ACP with adjustable sights. I think they call it the target model. Anyway, I thought it looked pretty neat and liked the feel of it, but I didn't have the $350 in my pocket the price tag was asking for. When I got home, I leafed through an issue of Shotgun News and when I spotted the price of what those things were going for, I dropped everything and called the shop on the phone. "Hold that gun! I'm on the way up to buy it!"

Yeah, those guys can laugh all they want at it. I took it to the range and sandbagging it on a 25 yard target had 5 shots making one ragged hole in the paper where the X ring used to be. Yeah man.... laugh all you WANT!

Mine is the CZ75B that I purchased up at deer camp. The price was good but more importantly it introduced me to CZ handguns and their quality.

Last weekend I sold my 1905 Winchester M94 Carbine in .38-55 for $550.00. I bought it 2 years ago for $100.00 and 800 12 gauge Trap reloads. Another was about 20 or so years ago, I bought an Australian L1A1 FN for $127.00 (Cdn) and a bunch of surplus army junk I had laying around the house. I sold it to a gentleman in Utah in 1992 for $700 (US). I never asked how he planned to get it across the border.

Well, there's the Colt MK IV series 80 Stainless enhanced .45 Govt for $275 that Dad picked up at a police auction for me.
Then there's the Beretta O/U BL-3 20 ga. for $325 that Dad picked up at a gun show. It didn't fit him.
THANKS DAD!
(I sure miss you!)

Best deal for me??....Back in the early 90's,I responded to a Want Ad ;guy in Wilmington Ma. had a Polytech Legend(wood stock)AK-47, with all the extra's(spare parts,730 rounder's,chrome followers, sight adjustment tools, bayonet, sling AND 1200 rounds of Norinco steel core+200 stripper clips,a clip guide for loading mags....all for $650.00. Believe it or not I probably could have gotten the deal down, because he HAD to sell.I paid what he asked. DAMN I hate Ma. gun laws,Ch180 eventually screwed me out of my stuff. I guess in his case, hea was having a less than amicable divorce.
Oh, BTW, this rifle was unfired(did I mention that he threw in a lot of Chicom web geal&pouches?)It was a great deal...I never should have come back to this socialist black hole in the northeast.

I picked up a few good deals over the years, but I guess the best was a browning BLR in .358 Winchester in pristine condition. It cost me $300, and came in the box and had all the box inserts and papers with it. Sadly I sold it for $565 not too long afterwards when I discovered that ammo was about $30 to $35 a box, some even more expensive.

I was a jerk on that one, I should have put it in a vault with a couple hundred rounds of ammo. What a pretty rifle - I learned a lesson though about firearms likely to become collectibles. That odd caliber almost assures the price will keep going up.

I traded a Makorov and $100 for an FAL. The guy said it didn't function properly. I took it home and basically removed enough cosmoline to preserve two guns. Cleaned it up, got it functioning, and then sold it for $700.

I work in the Comm center for our local PD.
I have gotten some great deal around here.
Taurus PT99 with 2 clips and holster for 150.00
Ruger MK I w/ 6 inch barrell in holster for 100.00
Years ago - S & W model 39 - brush chrome finsihed w/ wood grips - 150.00 - this gun had not even been fired - still in box w/ paper wrapped around it.

I also once got a Remington Model 11 16 gauge - (Hump-back Browning pat) for 30 bucks from an old guy in the neighborhood. I traded that gun even for a H&R Topper 30-30 w/ Weaver k4 scope that my son shot his first deer with when he was 12.
I have 13 neices and nephews coming up behind my kids - that will all use this gun if they decide to hunt deer. -- That was best 30 dollars ever spent.

Best deal I ever got on a firearm was probably a Mossberg 500 riot gun. Bought it used for $110 cash in 1992 or so, and it was my only shotgun for over 20 years.

Detonics Combat Master stainless (used) for $350 around the same time frame was a fairly good deal as well, but not a 'great' deal for that long ago.

Two Mossberg 151 (a) semi automatic .22's with the Micrometer rear sights and multiple front sights. $80.00 for both. I could have had them for $40.00 but I felt guilty. I traded one straight up for a NIB Ruger SR22. I still have the other one.

Best Deals for me was a G-19 for $250 off a coworker, and Summer of 2012 I walked into an LGS while I was at work, and they had a little Colt Cobra in the used case for $175. Bought it on the spot..Carrying it right now in fact.
