see settling for an Sks and a good Smith 2214 pocket .22, for economic reasons,. as shtf gun gear. The Star makes an excellent ccw gun for the man,in "normal times", of course. Very few people are going to work hard enough to make any other rifle and pistol combo do enough more to matter any, and canning the guns is an option only for the most dedicated, highly skilled type of man. The SKS, with Cor Bon 150 gr softpoints,is quite potent as a big game-getter,the.22 rifle is quite capable of taking cattle, deer with brain shots, and if it's canned, it's no joke as a man-deterrent, either.
The wife's 9mm is to let her make enough noise to call you back from wherever you went, or let her effectively commit suicide if you can't (in time). No more than a woman is likely to ever achieve as a defensive entity, in "normal times", the 2214 can deliver. That is, BLUFF. Bluffing, it doesn't matter that she can't get the thumb safety on the 2214 Smith disengaged in a proper, one handed manner. The little Smith is quite accurate enough to successfully forage-with, post shtf, and for short forays away from camp, you might risk only taking the Star and the .22 rifle. So those 4 guns add up to a very versatile, capable combination.
The .22 rifle should probably be a 10-22, with a GunsNStuff takedown stock, because the Marlin Papoose costs a lot more than the Ruger does, is a lot harder to find in good used condition, and good, high cap mags are available for the Ruger, but not for the Marlin. That MIGHT change, after the 94 AW ban dies this fall, tho. The Stainless Marlin offers a nice package, rustproof, etc.
Canning a .22 rifle is pretty simple. Doing same for the 2214,tho would mean having to internally thread the muzzle of the 3" barrel, leaving only 1.5" of rifling. Canning an SKS is a PITA,especially if the muzzle isn't already threaded.
