Mounted Pistol Combat
I have been doing some research on the earliest use of automatic pistols in actual combat. The earliest recorded case I have found is Winston Churchill's use of a 10 shot 7.62x25mm (.30)caliber Model 1896 Broom Handle Mauser.
That cartridge had a fearsome reputation from the time it was introduced in 1896 tp today. . Churchill used one when he led B Troop of the 21st Lancers in the regimental cavalry charge at the battle ofOmdurman in 1898.
He wrote:
"The Mauser was a real ripper. I fired all ten rounds in the magazine at point blank range, I killed 5 men for certain and wounded five more severly."
Not bad for his first time our!
