lots of centerfire hg ammo if shtf? When anyone with sense is going to have an autorifle, you'd better NOT be out of reach of your OWN autorifle, the FEW times that you are, you'd BETTER end any problems in 1 second flat, and that means firing VERY few rounds from your pistol. So 15 rds of centerfire handgun ammo will either last you for years, or you wlll be long dead.
I laugh myself sick when I see guys all "worried" about how they will be carrying 50 rds of 12 ga in bandoliers, or 7-9 mags for 1911.
With a rifle either in hand or on the assault sling, and a backpack, just WHERE are you going to put lots of pistol mags, hmm? My one spare for the centerfire pocket gun will be in the backpack, unless the RIFLE is hidden in the backpack. If the latter is the case, then the spare mag will be in the off side pants pocket. The hip belt of the backpack precludes all access to the pants belt or waistband. If just " doing chores around the retreat". , the CAR-15 is going to be slung, so long before I could reload the pistol, anyway, the rifle is going to be in use. The frontiersmen managed to always have at hand a 10 lb KY rifle, possibles bag, and powder horn, so anybody who can't keep a 6 lb CAR and 30 rd mag full of sp's handy is a real sad sack.
