dont accuse me of making your errors. You can easily need to FiGHT while on a hunt in Africa and it's not unknown while hunting in the US either. You CAN need longer range than the 45-70 offers, you CAN need rapidfire, etc. You bol action clowns THINK that you wont, but it's easy to see that it could happen quite readily. Not a single military in the world still uses the bolt action. The fact that some ass backwards, LOSING countries did so, vs autorifles has no merit as an argument. We walked all over the Taliban and the Vietnamese. We out killed them 10 to one. We were just pussy enough to not stand up to theire willingness to forfeit 10's of millions of their people's lives. That has nothing whatsoever to do with the effectiveness of our rifles and loads. They were scared spitless of the damage done by the 223 bullets when they hit bones. as well as our ability to lug around 3x as much ammo as they could.

You 'CAN' also need more power than a 223 shorty offers "while on a hunt in Africa". Doesn't mean the 223 doesn't have a place. Why do you accept that concept about the 223 shorty, but not other calibers or platforms?

There’s a lot of WTF in this thread.

The US military absolutely still uses bolt action rifles, and have killed and continue to kill people in the sandbox with them.

because you dont need more power than the 223, that's why. enough is enough, more is a waste and having more power comes with losing the handiness with silencer mounted and the .22 unit. Thats a ****ty tradeoff to make.

sure, cowardly assassinations from 1/2 mile, vs ignorant goat herds. That's not combat. That's shooting fish in a barrel. Nobody would want a bolt action for combat. and nobody with a brain would be out in daylight during hostilities and if they had to, they would not be holding still. Nobody's reliably hitting moving men beyond 223 range, regardless of gun or load. you can't calculate their speed well enough to do more than fire and hope.

Why dont you just call fire-bombing infantry from a mile up personal combat? it's the same ame ****ing lie about what you're doing.

says the coward that shoots dogs and cats and brags about it. And it isn't just goat herders. You know jack and squat bout the Sandbox. I doubt you've ever been on a two-way range anywhere.

the highlighted part is about the dumbest thing I've read in a long, long time, and shows you know very little about long range shooting or what overwatch actually does on a regular basis.

Again, you need to stay in your own lane, which is looking more and more like the bicycle lane.

Melvin, when you were back in the army, before you were thrown out, did they let you interact with real trained soldiers, or just meatheads (a fond term for military police in the Canadian Army).

I'm still trying to figure out the relevance to all this discussion to hunting in Africa. I don't think anyone of us is planning on a trip there, or am I incorrect?

OMFG! you know absolutely nothing about long range shooting and your statement is one of pure ignorance. Actually, I'm insulting ignorance.

You cannot shoot long range, and so you try to put that on every one else.

if anyone is lying, it is you lying to yourself.

I suggest you spend some time on YouTube and look at some of the long range hunting videos. Then I suggest you avoid certain topics. It would probably be best for you to stay in the bicycle lane, and let the adults discuss things.
